Make time by jake knapp6/12/2023 ![]() ![]() T he way we lead our lives and the reason why it’s so consumed with so many tasks is that we are reacting to the standards set up by our society. In this article, I’ll go through the Make Time approach, why it came about, and then attempt to redesign my day. Instead of ticking tasks off our to-do lists quicker or perfecting the art of time management, they propose we redesign our time so that we can spend a portion of it on the things we truly care about. ![]() This results in having no time to do the things that matter to us, whether it’s spending time with our family or pursuing a personal hobby.Īuthors of Make Time: How to Focus on What Matters Every Day, Jake Knapp and John Zeratsky offer up a solution in their book. Immersed in a culture that places busyness on a pedestal, the more things we’re occupied with, the more effective it appears that we are. Citizens of the 21st century live in a constant state of busyness. ![]()

Two year update: Now that I've been able to wear these shoes during real drizzly days and rain showers, I can confirm they are water-resistant. Some droplets stayed on the surface, but as I watched, they merely lingered there rather than absorb into the wool material. I tried ramping up the flow of the water, and the same thing happened, so I feel fairly confident about the material's performance in a real rain shower. To my relief and happiness, the water slid right off (this effect was also very satisfying to watch). However, I did run them under the water of my faucet, with all the expected trepidation of anyone testing a waterproof or water-resistant product for the first time. Since it didn't rain in the time I had to test the Wool Runner Mizzle, I couldn't test the claims of weather resistance directly. The softness and coziness of wool is exactly why you'd want to wear them when it rains, which is why I love that Allbirds now has a water-resistant version. The Wool Runners are still my favorite and the pair I wear the most, but I do have to admit it takes a certain bravery to put them on during cold weather season and risk getting them wet. ![]() ![]() First impression: I own three different pairs of Allbirds (well, four now!), the original Wool Runners, the Tree Skippers, and the Tree Breezers. ![]() Turma da Mônica by Vitor Cafaggi6/12/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() The idea of give the Mônica universe in a live action movie is hard, but impressively, they succeeded, with a great photography and direction the movie is simplely the comics in real life, the houses, the neighborhood, the characters, the animals, everything, and still have a story about friendship, and a funny adventure with the four kids, that are amazing interpreting the iconic characters, the plot have some moments that nothing interesting happens, and the final resolution is not so incredible, but the journey, see them together is prescious a lot. Perhaps he found another in the hypocrisy of the prison system itself, destroying the souls and bodies of those it would reform. Wilde loved paradox, and he found some essential symbol of it in the man who murdered his wife. ![]() Judas, of course, is on his mind: the poem refers to the kiss of Caiaphas, the latter being the priest who participated in Christ's betrayal. ![]() That would certainly seem to have been true of his relationship with "Bosie", Lord Alfred Douglas, seemingly a spoiled brat further spoiled by Wilde's adulation. What does Wilde mean? Perhaps he is saying that love itself corrupts or alters its object. It is a revelation, and its structure is part of that revelation.Įveryone can quote the refrain: "For each man kills the thing he loves." Poetically, it's unquestionably powerful, and, intellectually, it's powerfully questionable. The Ballad is an indictment of the death penalty and the whole penal system, but it is much more than a protest poem. ![]() Around this narrative core, whose genre might be described as gothic realism, Wilde builds a meditation on the paradoxes of morality. The poem is dedicated to the memory of the "sometime" Royal Horse Guards trooper, Charles Thomas Wooldridge, and the central incident is Wooldridge's execution for the murder of his wife. ![]() George saunders 10th of december review6/11/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() And in the title story, a stunning meditation on imagination, memory, and loss, a middle-aged cancer patient walks into the woods to commit suicide, only to encounter a troubled young boy who, over the course of a fateful morning, gives the dying man a final chance to recall who he really is. In the taut opener, “Victory Lap,” a boy witnesses the attempted abduction of the girl next door and is faced with a harrowing choice: Does he ignore what he sees, or override years of smothering advice from his parents and act? In “Home,” a combat-damaged soldier moves back in with his mother and struggles to reconcile the world he left with the one to which he has returned. One of the most important and blazingly original writers of his generation, George Saunders is an undisputed master of the short story, and Tenth of December is his most honest, accessible, and moving collection yet. ![]() Mr loverman bernardine evaristo review6/11/2023 ![]() Not many writers could have two old men having sexual intercourse in a bedsit to a soundtrack of Shabba Ranks's 'Mr. ![]() "Evaristo has a lot going on in this unusual urban romance, but beneath her careful study of race and sexuality is a beautiful love story.
